In winter of 2014, thirteen artists brought to life a vision for a collaborative contemporary dining experience at The Bull and Beggar restaurant in Asheville, NC. During this event a five-course meal was prepared by chef Matthew Dawes. The food and the handmade vessels created for each course were thematically linked to one of the four classical elements: earth, air, fire, or water. The plates on this page were designed to support a dinner portion of Pheasant, Carrot, Hay Ash Puree, Spruce, and Smoked Cauliflower. Their abstracted graphic patterning was designed to reference movement of flame. When united, both food and plate became a celebration of fire.
